Orgasm today

An installation in steel tubes and mannequins that turns sensuality into abstract play and a reflection on how we communicate today.

“Orgasm today” is a temporary site-specific installation created for “Il Fiorino sull’Arno” in Florence. It stages a tangle of steel tubes and transformed mannequins, giving shape to a virtual vision of sensuality. The work grew from the wish to play with rigid segments, bending them into soft lines and sensual figures, joined by “new friends” – the mannequins – altered and made an active part of the composition.

With irony and depth, the installation reflects on the way we communicate today: ever more digital, fragmented and “one line”, yet full of desire, play and the search for connection. “Orgasm today” can be read as a joke about the distances that separate us, or as evidence of our ability to intertwine emotions, thoughts and bodies even through artificial means. The result is a vibrant nocturnal landscape on the banks of the Arno, where the line between reality and fantasy dissolves and the mind is free to drift into the abstract.

The structural harmony of segments and figures, something I often look for in my work. The virtual vision of sensuality, set as the ultimate example of all the ways we human beings interfere with one another.

It could be a joke about the way we communicate today, ever more distant and “one line”, or simply a portrait of it and a testimony.

Will the intertwining of our most intimate sensations, starting in our brains and our limbs, with artificial and by now commercial means, manage to carry hormones, fluids and mind to a total affinity of the senses…? Or is it simply an abstract game of fantasy… why not? After all, we cannot stop the mind.

Perhaps for me it is just a nymph of inspiration, letting me still “have fun” playing with steel tubes that are anything but gentle, turning their hardness into soft lines and sensual figures, joined by new friends (mannequins) altered and made part of this image created on the banks of the Arno, where at the Fiorino people stroll by day, while at night… the mischief begins… people laugh, dance, and the darkness does not hide but colours.

Orgasm Today: the evolution of an idea that began as the wish to create a drawing, an intrigue of playful figures, later transformed as the ideas came into focus. And you, what do you prefer: reality, or drifting into the abstract?
