A monumental sculpture in welded steel plates, “Espressione” turns metal into a stylised face that watches and converses with the landscape, evoking strength, identity and memory.

“Espressione” (Expression) is a sculpture made in 2008 from welded steel plates, on an imposing scale (180×180 cm). It depicts a stylised face, essential and powerful, that rises from the ground and merges with its surroundings. Bold lines and the play of solid and void converse with natural light, giving back ever-changing reflections through the day.

Skilfully worked, the metal becomes a symbol of identity, rootedness and presence: a sign that recalls Tuscan roots and the strength of memory. “Espressione” invites the viewer to reflect on the relationship between individual and landscape, matter and spirit, restoring a sense of balance and belonging.

Suited to public spaces or gardens, the sculpture is a synthesis of contemporary art and a long familiarity with iron.
